Light rainshowers were on the course until about 18:30, and this likely scared away all but the most stalwart of the riders. Luckily the rain stopped so that the 8 riders and 11 volunteers remained dry. Three riders improved upon their previous season-series best, with Celia McInnis (25:44, 34.974km/h) being the most improved with a 5.34% cube-speed improvement. She credits Mike Plummer's repair work for some of this improvement - He got all the noisy creaking sounds out of her bike and replaced or cleaned most of the parts in the drive train. Too bad that today's rain dirtied it up a bit, but anyway the question "Are you making popcorn?" won't be asked now when she is riding with others! Yup that's how bad her bike sounded this season until today! Barbara Wilson (29:17, 30.734 km/h) managed a 2.75% despite having to wait for a couple of cars at the turn-around, and Patricia Konantz took 5 seconds off of her previous 2013 WTT best with her 27:27 (32.787 km/h). The fastest rider of the day was Cadet rider Katherine Maine with 23:24 (38.462 km/h). Katherine was the last to leave the start line and the first to reach the finish line! Way to go!
Note that there is only one more chance, August 20, to complete enough WTT events to be eligible for WTT awards. You must do 4 WTT events, at least 3 of which must be 15km WTTs and at most 1 of which can be a 10km event. The current category rankings for those who already qualify is seen here.
